Premium Times reports that Sani Madugu escaped death by the whiskers after some suspected smugglers attacked his convoy on Tuesday, October 10. It was gathered that Madugu was returning from a trip to Abeokuta when the incident occurred. Speaking to journalists about the attack, Madugu said the bandits launched the attack on his convoy of eight officials at about 8pm on the Ijako axis of the road. He said: “We were caught in the web of a traffic jam at Ijako axis of Abeokuta-Ifo road when the hoodlums came and attacked my convoy. They destroyed and vandalised our vehicles." Presenting evidence of the attack, the comptroller showed the newsmen the damaged official vehicle - a security pilot Toyota Hilux with registration number ‘Customs: A 39CS’ and his official car, which its plate number were taken away by the hoodlums. He said although he called for reinforcement, the hoodlums also carted away with the uniform of one of his aide, David Ojo. “We refused to be provoked. We do not fire gun to avoid calamity, particularly because of innocent motorists and passersby. We had to call for reinforcement before we could leave the scene,” Madugu said. While stating that the incident has been reported to the police, Madugu said his team is not discouraged by the attack and will continue to do all within its power at the command level to ensure the smuggling is curtailed.
